The Marshlands Inn as built for her as a wedding present from her father the Honorable William Crane in the mid 1800’s, 1854 to be exact. Although she looks rather formidable in her portrait, she was in fact a sweet and generous person. This lovely poem by Rose Darrough is a Testimony to her; “I have known beauty In gold spilled by a sudden autumn sun, In hush of twilight when the day was done.
